MENA:

The 24/7 multiplatform Arabic new service Asharq News has selected the Icareus Playout platform in its search for a best-in-breed EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) solution. It was chosen based on its adoption by other leading news organisations in the region, such as Arabsat, Arqiva, BVN, DialogTV, France24, Freesat, Mediaset, Telespazio and RAI. It reportedly allows the broadcaster to manage its EPG in a flexible manner and therefore offer a better TV experience to its viewers.

The Icareus Playout platform is tightly integrated with Asharq News’ BTS Traffic System to provide a seamless 24/7 fully automated EPG content workflow. In addition to Asharq News Satellite broadcast channels, the platform provides centralised EPG data management and ingestion to the station’s online environment with its automatic XML output generation. The Icareus Playout EP110 server is a full-scale PSI/SI generator server targeted for operators and broadcasters to manage their DVB multiplexes and channel lineups.

“High-quality EPG data significantly increases viewer satisfaction and it is vital that our customers can rely on us to provide it,” explained Icareus MD, Toni Leiponen. “Icareus Playout offered Asharq News peace of mind to meet their high criteria for both delivery time and operations.”

Omran Abdullah, director of engineering at Asharq News, commented: “We always look to invest in, and partner with, reliable technology providers that have a proven track record in the field. Icareus Playout will undoubtedly enhance our viewers’ EPG experience across the MENA region.”
