Shining a light on our forgotten industry
Shining a light on our forgotten industry
For many, the festive season is that time of the year we’re afforded the opportunity to overindulge in entertainment, most often in the form of live events. But not so this year. The knock-on effect of the ban on large gatherings worldwide has been an industry in crisis – affecting almost a million livelihoods in the UK alone, from technical production, manufacturing, catering, transport to artists, dancers and all those in performing arts.
These highly skilled specialists – on stage and behind the scenes – have been out of work since March. Many have not qualified for any financial support and as a result may be forced to leave our sector just to survive.
Simply put, without them, there will be no pantomime, live music, theatre, exhibitions, festivals, arena tours or conferences. Please watch and share the latest campaign video from #WeMakeEvents and spare a thought for our forgotten industry and the people that make it so great. There’s extra points for any eagle-eyed viewers that spot our very own Chris Yardley, who’s been working with the #WeMakeEvents team.
