Meyer Sound’s summer programme wraps with Grateful Dead webinar

USA:

Meyer Sound’s Summer Webinar Program will wrap with a final “Festival Friday” round table session detailing the company’s lengthy sonic explorations with the Grateful Dead and their related bands. Special guest Derek Featherstone, CEO of UltraSound and FOH mixing engineer for Dead and Company, joins Meyer Sound president and CEO John Meyer, and director of system optimisation Bob McCarthy. The trio will share innovations and anecdotes from over the years and answer questions via livestream on the Meyer Sound Users Community Facebook group at 1800 CET on Friday 7 August.

“The Grateful Dead were live sound pioneers and John Meyer’s involvement goes back to the Wall of Sound era, even before Meyer Sound was formed,” said McCarthy. “The Dead and the dedicated engineers at UltraSound provided a continuous living lab for us and we pushed the boundaries together, leading to many innovations. The Dead and UltraSound are very much part of our DNA.”

The Grateful Dead toured with Meyer Sound for many years, and since the passing of band leader Jerry Garcia in 1995, various iterations of the founding members, including Dead and Company, also tour with Meyer Sound systems.

This round table concludes the summer webinar season which has featured daily programmes since March. More than 75 webinars are now archived on Meyer Sound’s YouTube page and website. The company will return with a new format in September.
