Biamp acquires Huddle Room Technology

Biamp has unveiled several new collaboration solutions at ISE 2020, in addition to announcing another big acquisition, this time of Huddle Room Technology (HRT) based in Modena, Italy. The acquisition adds HRT’s family of Huddle Hub wireless USB and content sharing products to Biamp’s extensive range of meeting room solutions.

‘HRT has demonstrated impressive vision and technical expertise in designing the Huddle Hub, a truly unique and potent BYOD meeting solution,’ said Rashid Skaf, president, CEO and co-chairman of Biamp. ‘Huddle Hub provides wireless USB, screen sharing, screen rebroadcasting and smart room integration all from one platform and, when combined with our solutions, allows us to create truly extraordinary experiences for our customers. When we introduced our first USB collaboration hub, Devio, it was met with tremendous success and proved the appeal of high-performing, easy-to-use BYOD room solutions. The Huddle Hub’s wireless USB capability targets these same applications and is a natural and complementary addition to Biamp’s portfolio that we’re certain will be well-received by integrators and end users alike.’

The Huddle Hub possesses multi-user screen sharing, which allows several users to share content to the room display simultaneously. Meeting attendees can also request that the displayed content is broadcast back to their laptop or mobile device, permitting them to view content locally rather than relying on the room display, a useful feature when in-room displays are small, far away, obstructed or if the viewer simply has difficulty seeing content clearly.

Newly announced at ISE 2020 is a corporate cloud-based version of Biamp HRT’s collaboration technology, Huddle Hub Enterprise (HH Enterprise). HH Enterprise lets enterprise organisations create smart rooms that exist as permanent virtual meeting places. Users can enter virtual rooms from anywhere reachable by the corporate network and begin collaborating with other visitors in the smart room. It’s said to be the ideal solution for small groups that meet around tables in lobbies, offices or in any other location not equipped with AV equipment. A single HH Enterprise device can host six simultaneous meetings with up to 150 total participants.

Alongside the HRT acquisition announcement, Biamp has unveiled new products targeting a range of different sectors, such as a new preamplifier and pendant loudspeaker to provide multi-zone audio for retail and hospitality applications. The PREZONE2 is a dual-zone stereo preamplifier designed that utilises the same simple user interface introduced with PREZONE1, while the P30DT pendant is a 4.25-inch, two-way loudspeaker that becomes the smallest pendant in Biamp’s catalogue.

In addition to music reproduction, end users can employ public address features like paging and emergency alerts. The PREZONE2’s front panel provides feedback of operational status with push-button capability for source select and separate volume knobs for each zone. It also supports inputs for two microphones that can be mixed with one of four audio sources in each zone, while both zoned and all-call paging modes are supported.

The rear panel inputs and outputs are laid out left to right in descending order of audio priority level, with individual controls for volume, gain and EQ available for each priority level. Both RCA and Euroblock connectors are supported, and each output channel is equipped with an independent mono/stereo switch on the rear panel for added flexibility. In addition, the PREZONE2 serves a mobile-friendly web page that gives end users the same capabilities as the front panel of the device.

Biamp’s P30DT two-way pendant loudspeaker shares the design of its larger sibling, the P60DT, and utilises the same drivers as the CM30DTD in-ceiling loudspeaker – a 4.25-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter – resulting in matched acoustic characteristics and performance. Its wide coverage area allows for fewer loudspeakers while maintaining speech intelligibility. The P30DT is equipped with a tuned bass-reflex port for optimised low-frequency performance and an overload protection feature for 24/7 failsafe operation. Available in black or white, the P30DT uses a multi-position switchable transformer for constant-voltage operation, making it well-suited for a wide range of background and foreground audio applications.

Catering to the conferencing and sound reinforcement markets, the American manufacturer has introduced TEC-X, a family of wall and table controllers enabling the control of AV equipment utilising its Tesira platform. The TEC-X family includes two models: the TEC-X 1000 and TEC-X 2000. The TEC-X 1000 combines a rotary encoder and small touchscreen that can be programmed to display a variety of button layouts that can initiate ‘virtually’ any action desired. The large, weighted rotary encoder is designed to be instantly recognisable to end users as a volume control but can be programmed for any purpose. The rotary can be pushed to select for one additional button to those displayed on the screen.

For applications that require more buttons, the TEC-X 2000 features a larger touchscreen in lieu of the rotary encoder. It can be programmed with a variety of layouts that feature up to 12 touch buttons. Both options are PoE-powered to simplify installation cabling, and up to four controllers can be daisy-chained to support environments that require multiple devices. System programmers can reportedly use the TEC-X for any control purpose and have extensive customisation capabilities of the user interface through Tesira software.

Taking ‘conferencing’ into the big league, Biamp’s new Crowd Mics Online apps turns any iOS or Android smartphone into a personal microphone and interactive response systems, essentially meaning that audience member at an event could use their smartphones to connect with the event presenter as if they were in the same room. It works by enabling full bidirectional functionality between remote participants and the Crowd Mic’s host device, the ATOM, so attendees anywhere can ask questions by voice or text and participate in real-time polls via their smartphones.

Moderators can maintain full control over the conversation via the moderator interface. Both the attendee app and moderator interface will be translated into 20 languages to make Crowd Mics more accessible to international users. The app is being targeting at presentations, lectures, panel discussions and other live events.

Biamp’s Tesira platform has also undergone an expansion to include the TesiraCONNECT TC-5D, a new dual network device that lets designers incorporate both AVB and Dante into their AV solutions. TesiraCONNECT TC-5D features the same plug-and-play simplicity of the recently introduced TC-5 connectivity appliance and adds the interoperability of Dante. With the TC-5D, designers and integrators can easily connect and power via PoE+ both Dante and Biamp AVB devices in the same system with no configuration required. The new device allows connected Dante devices to be managed using Dante Domain Manager as well as configured in Dante Controller. Once installed, the TC-5D can be monitored and maintained using Biamp’s SageVue management platform.

Last but by no means least, a large-format horn loudspeaker from Community has been unveiled by Biamp at ISE, described as offering ‘the highest output, widest bandwidth and most consistent coverage of any large format point source loudspeaker on the market’.

The Community LVH-900 Beamforming Venue Horn tailors the directivity of each loudspeaker, or array of loudspeakers, to meet the sound requirements of any large venue application. Designed for both music and speech reproduction and available in indoor and outdoor models, the LVH-900 is engineered to serve as a primary loudspeaker for arenas, theatres, stadiums, houses of worship and other large venues. Each LVH-900 loudspeaker comprises four 12-inch LF drivers, three Biamp Community M200 midrange compression drivers and four 1.5-inch HF compression drivers. All three drivers integrate into a single tri-axial waveguide that fills the entire face of the enclosure, providing pattern control to below 400Hz. The LVH-906 and LVH-909 offer 60° or 90° of fixed horizontal dispersion, respectively, with each allowing vertical dispersion beamforming ranging from 60° to 20°.
