Subsonic purchases Midas PRO X
PRO LAB has confirmed the sale of a new Midas PRO X digital mixing console to Dubai-based live audio specialist Subsonic Event Services. Featuring 168 simultaneous input channels and 99 time-aligned and phase-coherent mix buses, the PRO X is the latest addition to Midas’ Pro Series.
‘We had a number of broadcast projects where audio needed to be distributed across a football stadium to various locations, and the I/O and routing of the PRO X enabled us to route audio to all the areas easily,’ explained Bruno Vitanza, projects engineer and owner of Subsonic. ‘I know it has been said a lot, but it is hard to make a band sound dirty with the PRO X. Although there are other consoles’ workflows that we have gotten used to, we have now begun to see the deeper logic with the Midas workflow. For example, with patching and routing, you patch everything as if it were analogue, using an imaginary cable. This easily lets you see at a glance what is going where, in comparison to the popular alternative of grids and small dots. Lastly, the PRO X's rock-solid build quality is impressive.’
Vitanza is equally impressed with Midas as a whole. ‘Although the marriage of Behringer and Midas some years ago was met with a few raised eyebrows, it’s been amazing to see how the two development teams have added to the Midas range of products, such as the M32, which for the RRP is one of the most feature-packed and easy to use consoles ever made in our opinion.
‘We currently have the PRO X available for hands-on training and practice in our comfortable studio at DIP for every interested sound engineer in UAE to become familiar with it. All they have to do is book the studio, and the console is theirs for up to eight hours with multitrack recordings to practice mixing, patching and anything they wish.’
Subsonic has a history with PRO LAB, having purchased a wide range of equipment with the distributor in the past. ‘We purchased, Neutron, Neutron NB, two KT-MADIs, two KT-Dantes, two KT-AES-50s, several Midas Pro stageboxes and AES-50 fibre extenders, as well as various I/O Cards for the PRO X, DI Boxes and more,’ recalled Vitanza. ‘PRO LAB has been incredibly supportive, and thanks to their support we have managed to expand. The availability of MIDAS inventory and accessories has often helped us solve tricky requests, and if they don't have an item in stock, they bend over backward to make sure it arrives in time for our show.’
