Team Robe T1 gears up for Absa Cape Epic

South Africa:

Robe Lighting and DWR Distribution will be sponsors at the Absa Cape Epic challenge for the third year in a row. The annual mountain bike stage race is now in its 16th year and will see Team Robe T1, formed of Paul Newman from Lucidity Technical Production Services and pro cyclist Mike Hewan, take on the eight-day challenge through the Western Cape region.

Team Robe T1 has been named after the lighting manufacturer’s T1 series of LED moving lights. Robe Lighting CEO Josef Valchar has taken a keen interest in the sport and provided sponsorship along with the team from DWR Distribution.

‘There are a lot of strong cyclists in our industry and it’s great that Robe and DWR recognise this and support their customer base as we support them,’ said Mr Newman. ‘The Absa Cape Epic is the world’s toughest and most iconic mountain bike race and so it’s only fitting that brands like Robe and DWR are involved.’

It is estimated that 650 teams will tackle the 700km distance, climbing an elevation of more than 15,000m. This will be Mr Newman’s third time riding it.

‘We wish Paul and Mike everything of the best,’ said Rob Izzett from DWR, who took on the Epic himself last year. ‘Keep the rubber side down.’
