Saudi Arabia:

The Atturaif Living Museum highlights the history and culture of what was once an ancient mud citadel and the capital of the first Saudi dynasty in the 18th century. Visitors to the museum’s amphitheatre witness animations projected onto the walls that tell the site’s story. Audio accompanies these projections, delivered by 10 Renkus-Heinz STLA/9R line array speakers installed by Robert Cole from Automation Control & Energy Systems.

‘The biggest challenge was the huge area and the distances between the sound system and the public and as you would expect at a World Heritage site, there is also a particular need for impressively loud and clear sound,’ explained Norbert Bau, Renkus-Heinz’s Middle East sales representative, when discussing the installation. ‘There are architectural restrictions on what we can do here and the system needs to be as invisible as possible and not interfere with the projection.’

The STLA/9R line array were installed five per side, playing to the space’s wide margins. These are complemented on the low end by left and right trios of Renkus-Heinz DR18-2R self-powered subwoofers, while three ST9-44 loudspeakers cover the amphitheatre’s centre section. A single ICL-F-RN digitally steerable line array loudspeaker can be found on each side of the venue, serving as both rear-fill and surround.

In addition, six ICL-F-Dual-RN steerable loudspeakers have been installed in other areas of the Living Museum to support other outdoor video projections.
