The SCM12i Pro passive monitor has a 1-inch soft dome based on the manufacturer’s dual-suspension technology

ATC has adapted its SCM12 Pro to create the SCM12i Pro passive monitor. Designed for use in surround/multichannel recording/mixing and immersive applications such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D, the cabinet weighs 15kg and measures 400mm x 238mm x 235mm (HxWxD). Other features include an 80Hz to 16kHz (±2dB) amplitude linearity, a cut-off frequency of 56Hz to 22kHz, ±80° horizontal and ±10° vertical dispersion and a maximum continuous SPL of 108dB. The SCM12i Pro has been manufactured around the same philosophy as ATC’s two- and three-way active monitor loudspeakers and includes the same driver components and technology found in these larger models.

The tweeter is a 1-inch soft dome based on the manufacturer’s dual-suspension technology. It incorporates two suspensions, said to offer greater control of the voice coil and dome motion, especially at higher sound pressure levels. The result is described as an extended high-frequency response with ‘much greater clarity and definition’ due to the reduction in disturbing anharmonic distortion.

At the lower end of the frequency spectrum, mid/bass reproduction is handled by a 6-inch proprietary CLD drive unit. Using a 1.75-inch diameter voice coil and an FEA-optimised, high-energy symmetric gap motor system, the driver is reportedly capable of a ‘tremendous’ dynamic range with minimal power compression. The cone has been constructed using the company’s Constrained Layer Damping process that uses multiple laminated fabric cones to form a stiff, light and well-damped structure. The construction is said to create a smoother on- and off-axis frequency response and a reduction in distortion.
