Powersoft webinar series returns

Powersoft is partnering with Pro AVL MEA to once again present a series of webinars following the success of last year’s sessions with Dave Rat and Steven Kemland. This latest series will run on 4 and 5 October and highlight all aspects of designing an audio system for TV shows such as X Factor Italy, where live music and broadcast audio are the key fundamentals, as well as how Powersoft can invigorate the PA on the live touring circuit.

The first webinar, How to reinvigorate PA with the X Series amplifier platform: Australian Pink Floyd’s live tour, will be conducted by Capital Sound project manager Robin Conway and takes place on 4 October from 3pm GMT.

Capital Sound has been using Powersoft’s X Series amplifiers to drive its passive systems. Running four touring racks on tour with Australian Pink Floyd, each consisting of three X8 units, Mr Conway points out how the X Series platform has been able to draw very little power, easily fitting within a 63A, 3-phase touring power supply system, while ensuring outstanding sonic performance. Mr Conway is head of the development team at Capital Sound and is currently manages four loudspeaker brands. The rental company won the 2017 Festival Supplier Award for Best Sound at the Barclaycard British Summertime Festival and in 2016 won the Grand Prix Award at the Pro Sound Awards event.

The second webinar takes place day later, on 5 October from 3pm GMT. Titled How to design a live music and speech system for broadcast: X Factor Italy and presented by the show’s FOH engineer, Massimo Faggioni, this webinar will be conducted in Italian with English subtitles provided.

Mr Faggioni will explain the complexities faced by himself and sound designer Roberto Scioni in setting up in the Linear 4 Ciak Theatre with lasers, videos and Spidercam intervening for X Factor Italy. In addition they had to deal with issues posed by the weight loading of the loudspeakers and the requirement to maintain an SPL of 94dB(A). In this situation, when mixing a live show for broadcast, the 8-channel Powersoft X8 brought about a great reduction in cabling. It also provided DSP and enabled full control via Armonîa — which was set up in advance — while the virtual amps prepared on Armonîa were then paired with the physical ones. He will demonstrate how the endless possibilities of the X8 allowed him to process each signal channel output without the need for external signal processing. The amps were monitored in real time while all management could take place from a single platform.
