Astro Spatial Audio’s Sara II object rendering engine is a 3U rackmountable device that aims to bring object-based 3D mixing to the live sound and installation sectors, in addition to room acoustics and stage tracking features.

Utilising Fraunhofer’s SpatialSound Wave (SSW) technology, the device houses a 2.8-inch touchscreen display on the front panel, and compared to the original Sara engine, a low-noise cooling system, redundant SSD drives and up to 64 Madi or 128 Dante configurable network pathways.

The engine can be controlled via browser-based GUI in addition to simultaneous control from up to 10 hardware devices via OSC for Midi, RS232 and GPIO. The system latency is stated to be less than 5ms, and reliability is ensured with a solid build as with the use of a Linux CentOS operating system, states the manufacturer.
